Marine Communications
Using the mobile network to communicate whilst out on the water is significantly cheaper than using satellite to keep in touch- most of the time it is one fifth of the price of satellite.
Powertec has a range of GSM and 3G hardware for voice, fax and data communication whilst you are in a marine environment.
Marine Voice
Ericsson’s Fixed Wireless Terminals (FWTs) are the ideal solution for clear and reliable phone reception via the GSM mobile network whilst on board any marine vessel. Although calls are being sent over the mobile network, call quality is identical to a fixed line telephone call. A Fixed Wireless Terminal provides the user with peace of mind and the convenience of having a reliable telephone on board.
The Ericsson W Series Terminals operate over the 3G network for voice applications. When used in conjunction with a Laser 746 marine antenna the W25 can receive coverage between 85km (approximately 53 mi) and 135 kms (approximately 84 mi) off shore.
Marine Internet
Downloading weather maps, booking a marina berth or searching for a good restaurant at your next stop is made easier and is much more price friendly with a Fixed Wireless Terminal. Ericsson’s G3 Series FWTs operate on the EDGE/GSM network, and are capable of reaching data speeds of up to 236kbps. The W2 Series 3G Fixed Wireless Terminal can reach data speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps on the 3G network. This is faster than standard broadband connections.
Marine Fax
Whether you have converted your boat into your office or you would just like to be reached in every way possible, Ericsson’s Fixed Wireless Terminals will allow you to send and receive faxes via the mobile network. Both the G3 Series (for GSM/EDGE networks) and the W2 Series (for 3G networks) support this application. Again, users will enjoy the benefits of operating a fax over the mobile network, rather than the more expensive satellite network.
